Wearable Gadgets

What are wearable gadgets?

Wearable gadgets as the name suggests are gadgets that can be worn. Many of us might think that they are needless as we already have our smartphones in place. On the contrary they are sure making things hands-free and their applications are justified because your smartphone cannot capture anything that comes into your view by just a voice command like google glasses can do, besides that solar power clothes which can generate electricity to charge your gadgets are definitely an innovation. But this isn't all of it, today everything  like wrist bands, watches, cuff links, shirt buttons, shoes ,T-shirt are going the digital way. They are loaded with features like bluetooth and Wi-Fi connect. Probably it won't be an exaggeration to expect voice controlled shirt buttons and bluetooth enabled trouser zippers too. However for the latter two technologies, I don't know if they really exist but if they do than they are a sure nomination for the Ig Noble prize.

Let's have a look at some of these technologies that really exist :

Smartwatches

The Pebble iOS Smartwatch

Although isn't every wirst watch whether digital or not is a wearable gadget itself ? But here we are not talking about the mechanical watches powered by quartz crystal as with the coming of smartphones they are mere showpieces and
objects of fashion because atleast for the sake of seeing time and date one  can carry a mobile phone. Here we are talking about smartwatches, i.e. watches that have features like android, bluetooth, wi fi, a digital screen and are a perfect companion to your smartphone so that attending calls is easier and you need not search your phone for this. Moreover they notify you about emails and social account updates.

There are many variants available in the market like Sony Smartwatch, Apple iWatch, Cookoo, pebble etc etc. A recent addition to this list is androidly made by a group of Indian entrepreneurs who claim it to be a true smartwatch. By 'true' they mean that it doesn't require to be connected to a phone and offers every feature on its own. They named it androidly because it operates on android platform. It has added features of a phone, camera and GPS.

Smart Glasses

With the coming up of google glasses, at least this part of wearable tech is higly popularised, but google isn't the first to launch smart glasses and in fact they existed earlier to it but then their perception wasn't always an internet connectable device. By that time they can be glasses mounted with a camera or simply glasses having ear phones mounted over and a memory card slot for storing music,

But google glasses match almost to the scouters you may have seen in the Dragon Ball Z series ( obviously they don't count someone's energy level). Their market price will be around 700- 800 USD. The features include voice command activated camera which also includes sharing your photos and videos online, google search, google language translation, augmented reality fetures which guids you about the locations much like a GPS operating in front of your eyes. All this in a lightweight frame. This seems to be a bit futuristic, isn't it?

The GoPro camera

This seems to be the most useful part of the wearable tech because it really has a significant application in photography. Where a normal camera cannot be held easily a gopro cam can be mounted for example on head. These are powerful cameras meant for professionals as well as amateurs, and come loaded with features like wi-fi connect and remote control.

USB accessories

USB surely revolutionized data storage by outdating optical disks up to a large extent. But the craze for fitting these pen drives anywhere is now at its pinnacle. I was shook by a news which told that a person who when  he lost one of his finger, replaced it by a pen drive. So it is now not difficult to imagine that  a great many of these accessories come in the market like USB cuff links, lockets, necklaces, writing pens etc.

Tech extreme: digital clothing

Computer clothing, digital fashion or geeky T-shirts, whatever you call them are the true essence of wearable technology, as I am too lazy to do a research on my own I am just passing a popular link on computer clothing by howstuffworks?

These clothings have immense potential and wide applications, like energy generating solar cell loaded shirts. In fact a company has also developed air conditioned clothes.

Digital footwear

Google Talking Shoes
Smart shoes variants available can measure parameters like jumpshot, speed, performance but some are even more techy by having the de facto feature in almost every gadget now i.e. an internet connectivity for notifying you about your social media messages. Google is also teaming up with adidas to build smart shoes with features similar to google glasses but obviously in the footwear way.
